Position statement in reference to who should be involved in medical missionary work
In scripture, we are counseled to help the less fortunate and the sick. This counsel was exemplified in the healing ministries of individuals like Moses, the Good Samaritan, the Sheep in the parable of Luke’s gospel, Paul, Peter, Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, and most notably, Jesus Christ Himself. Throughout scripture, God used healing as a means of demonstrating His love and care towards His children. Through the prophetic writings of Ellen G White, it is clear that God is calling upon His last day remnant church (Seventh-day Adventists) to also be engaged in helping the sick and needy. It appears that this work is not to be relegated to specialized health professionals, but includes all Seventh-day Adventists:
“We have come to a time when every member of the church should take hold of medical missionary work.”
It is the position of the Institute that every Seventh-day Adventist should be engaged in some facet of health evangelism.
